Triggers are those identified signs which indicate to a business that they need to start preparing for a disaster. Triggers could include a date for an annual or seasonal property maintenance, review of plans or practicing procedures. A trigger for flood in your area could be when certain rainfall levels are predicted, the river reaches a certain height or a warning is issued. Bushfire or heatwave triggers may be an extremely hot-dry day or fires in your area. Other triggers could include the closure of a particular road in your area or the presence of smoke or flames. Whatever your triggers are, they may spur you to take action to protect the lives of your staff and customers and minimise business losses.
